Black Hawk

EXPLORE • TEACH • LEAD • GET PAID

Black Hawk College has received funding through the Illinois State Board of Education’s

Growing Agricultural Science Teachers (GAST) Grant to help develop the next generation of

agriculture educators. If you’ve ever thought about becoming an ag teacher — or just want

to explore the field — this is your opportunity!

STEP 1: Take AG 280 – Introduction to Agricultural Education

• A 3-credit, online asynchronous college course designed for high school students

interested in agricultural education.

• Tuition waivers are available for up to 7 high school students, covering the full cost of the

course.

• Learn about teaching, classroom leadership, FFA advising, and careers in agricultural

education — all at your own pace!

STEP 2: Apply for a Paid Internship

• Students enrolled in AG 280 may indicate interest in completing an agricultural education

internship.

• Gain hands-on experience assisting local ag teachers, supporting classroom labs, or

helping with FFA events.

• Internships are compensated at $15 per hour, paid at the end of the semester upon

successful completion of approved hours.

• A completed W-9 form must be submitted with the internship application to be eligible for

payment.

MENTORSHIP & CAREER CONNECTIONS

Participants will connect with experienced ag teachers, college faculty, and industry

professionals who will help them explore career opportunities in agricultural education.
