Good morning Illinois Agriculture Educators.

The Illinois Science Teaching Association cordially invites Illinois Agriculture Educators to our annual conference and pre-conference workshops on October 23-24 in Naperville. We are hosting two all day workshops on Thursday, October 23rd in addition to dozens of hour-long workshops on Friday, October 24th.

The Thursday workshops will focus on using the three dimensions of science to teach agricultural topics for agriculture or science . Feel free to share this information with your peers.

Solving Food Challenges for a Changing Planet (Thursday 9a-4p)

Explore how food can provide relatable entry points for students using STEM skills to solve real world problems. Join us in this hands-on workshop for how corn is the most important food crop grown in the U.S., yet climate change threatens our ability to improve yields to continue meeting rising human demand.

Engaging Students in the Science and Engineering of Food (Thursday 9a-4p)

Sensemaking begins with in-depth experiences using rich and relevant phenomena. Food provides powerful motivation for students in making sense of the world around them as they use scientific practices and make real-world connections for how to develop the perfect apple. Unpack how to use phenomena, lesson level performance expectations, and the 3 dimensions of NGSS to scaffold learning for students.
